What is In the Core?
In the Core, defined simply, is having the right things in the right place at the right time.
In the Core is a holistic, athletic training system, focused on all the areas needed to be a great athlete physically and mental—especially athletic decision making and proper form and body (core) control. We focus on bringing our highest level of training to all individuals involved in our programs. This includes physical training systems that are common and others found nowhere else. Both proven to work.
This also includes many weekly lessons or teachings that build high moral value and integrity. This then transcends the physical experience into the mental and intellectual. One of our goals is to educate the athlete why we do what we do. We believe this best equips athletes not only for great performance but to be a leader in life.
Though we focus on the same areas that most classic and fitness training models do – strength, speed, power, which are needed in any sport – In the Core goes beyond. Our training pyramid is one of a kind and gets greater results. Please see our About page for more information.
What age of athletes do you train?
The simple answer is all ages 6 years old and up.
In most cases, athletes join our group training in grade school. They love the challenge and results. Many move into our exclusive individual program by their 9th grade year as they are serious about playing at the highest level they can and see playing in college as a great goal.
Once in college, our relationship does not end. We continue to train and consult through summer and mid-term breaks. They come back in part to get help with making sense and getting the most out of their summer training programs provided by the Universities performance and strength coach.
What types of training sessions do you offer?
In the Core offers individual sport-specific training, group and team training, and adult fitness classes. We are working on a mobile training option as well as an online fitness course.
Do you offer consultations for athletes and/or parents?
Yes. Learn more about our 30-minute consultations.
Is there anything outside of training sessions you require athletes to do?
Besides at-home training assignments, in the individual program, we often have athletes keep a journal which consists of assignments like a food log, goal setting and evaluation, “gold nugget” coaching tips, etc.
How is the individual program different than the group/team program?
The individual program is holistic and results driven. It takes a longer-term approach to building a great athlete, though we often see results come quickly.
Our desire is to develop whole-brained athletes using the cross-hemispherical connection of the brain. Thus, decision-making games and drills begin every session. Throughout the sessions, we emphasize core-strength, stability, conditioning, strength, power, speed, and other essentials of elite athletes. Through this flow of training, we specify the drills and workouts to their sport and their individual needs, making them specific to where they are at and demands of their particular sport(s).
If an injury occurs, we continue to train the athlete keeping their fitness level high, attacking other areas of need and guiding them through the mental challenges of injury. We also provide post physical therapy body strengthening.
Typically, the individual program is a once or, for many, twice per week session which is crafted for his or her sport(s) and individual areas of need. It’s very individualized for each athlete. During sports seasons we do not stop—the training will help with recovery and keeping athletes mentally positive and fresh.
We are intentional about teaching them the different “seasons” of being an athlete. The goal of the individual program is to move them into and through the high school years playing at the highest level they can so that if they desire to play in college, they are ready to grab ahold of that opportunity.
Throughout the individual program, our trainers enjoy getting to know (and developing a wonderful relationship with) both the athletes and their families.
